We are recruiting a Senior Food Microbiologist to be filled as soon as possible.

As part of our ambitious growth strategy, we are looking to strengthen our S&T Explore Food Ingredients team with a Senior Food Microbiologist.

As the Food Microbiologist in a senior role, you will be the key person in building and developing facilities, structure, resources, team and innovation strategy focused on antimicrobial solutions. You will be responsible for identifying and managing projects aiming at the development of Clean label ingredient solutions via fermentation processes and plant extraction and demonstrating their antimicrobial efficacies in food products.


Your duties as the Food Microbiologist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

You will be a key member of the Science and Technology Explore team and will be required to liaise with research microbiologists, biotechnologists and plant scientists in order to understand the requirements of different research and business groups, helping you to coordinate the development of the solutions to be obtained via fermentation processes and plant extraction, and demonstrating their antimicrobial efficacies in food products.

It will be your responsibility to document all experimental work to the appropriate guidelines while also maintaining and preparing collaborations with internal and external partner laboratories.

As the expert in food microbiology, you will maintain a state-of-the-art expertise in the field (plant science and extraction, fermentation and downstream processing) and drive an ambitious projects and programs for the group. It will be important to maintain an awareness of new technologies to keep the work up-to-date (literature and patent reviews, conferences, trade-shows).

You will be expected to lead complex projects from proposal/conception to delivery to customers, engaging with other departments as necessary, including business development and other technical groups.




To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Senior Food microbiologist, we are looking to identify the following skills and experience from you:


A relevant PhD in a bioprocess related discipline (e.g. Microbiology, Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, etc.) is appreciated for the position.


Proven industry experience in a bioprocess development environment which uses fermentation technology would be highly beneficial to this position.


A working knowledge and practical experience with using fermentation technology is desirable for this position. This could include the ability to design, execute and document experimental activities to industrial standards.

A working knowledge and experience in project and people management, and Coordination of international project teams.
